I read an interesting article on one of my conservative blogs today and would love to hear feedback and counterpoints from different minded Oppo’s. No fights here, just looking for genuine reaction/opinion.

Putin’s goal is to cast doubt on American institutions and cause strife in American society, so colluding in such a way to be noticed works for him.
That and the whole openly assassinating people with chemical weapons in NATO countries thing.

There appears to be a lot of confusion and dealing with a lack of facts. The way I see it is Russia most likely took two avenues.
One is the possible collusion with Trump/aides. That link isn’t entirely proven at this point. It seems like the aides were trying to get info about Clinton and not trying to bring Russia into all this. Maybe they talked about other stuff, I don’t know.
Two, Russia’s involvement with Facebook, ads, donations and all the other stuff they did to help Trump win. These efforts appear to be independent but maybe they are linked.
Does he win with Russia’s efforts? Probably. He has said enough stuff and conducted himself in such a manner that his true colors and allegiances were evident well before the election.
People were tired of Clinton. Trump kept saying crooked Hillary and toss her in jail and people ate it up. Never mind his lack of experience, filter, and all that.
I don’t think our election was undermined. I have faith that he was legally elected. I don’t think Russia’s involvement swayed any meaningful number of people but we absolutely have to see all the investigations through. Even that thought that we wouldn’t follow up on allegations of interference are enough to create interference on a larger and more sophisticated scale for the next election. We are future proofing ourselves for the next time it happens.

The part about the constant talk of collusion potentially undermining faith in our elections is at least potentially partly valid. Maybe a tiny sliver of validity. A small one. I don’t want a whole slice of pie. Just a taste.
The part about the constant talk of collusion being the only possible explanation for Trump’s low poll numbers because everything is actually great and his poll numbers should be higher, is a load of shit. There are very many good reasons to dislike the job Trump has done. Take your pick:
“Good people on both sides”
“Shithole countries”
Immigration bans
Cabinet appointees chosen to actively undermine the agencies they’re supposed to lead
Transgender military bans
Dog whistle racism
Grab them by the pussy
My nuclear button is bigger than little rocketman’s
Fuck those NFL players
General chaos in the white house
Fucking up healthcare
Tax cuts for the wealthy
Actual racism
Rolling back every consumer-friendly regulation Obama implemented, because it was something Obama did
Endorsing Roy Moore
Tax cuts for corporations
Appointing loads of anti-abortion judges even if they have no legal experience
Being a fucking asshole

I think that “big media” is a disgusting business driven by how easy it is to prey on people’s emotions with sensationalism and clickbait. As a liberal, I routinely feel that CNN, NPR, etc are totally full of shit on hotbutton lib issues like gun control (I don’t care if you have an AK... after a background check.) However, blog articles like these are the kind of thing I’d file under “classic diversion.” Sure, logical arguments about the negative effects of airing out your filthy degenerate laundry are made here, but this is a piece written for a demographic that is eager for whatever positive spin someone can whip up about this entire situation.

Certainly, sowing the seeds of discontent is exactly what Putin wants, and he’s gotten it. Trump is a perfect stooge for him, whether it’s explicit or just a lucky coincidence for Putin.
As far as the idea that the media screaming about collusion does more damage than the alleged collusion itself, that’s absurd, and it’s not how the United States of America is supposed to work.
More than anything, we need to better understand all of the fake news that circulates (and there’s a hell of a lot of it on both sides), and find ways to reduce that - or at least stopping the fake news that’s created by the Russians - on both sides.
The article is just a fairly weak attempt to turn the tables.

This is laughable.
So, basically we should really be just ignoring the fact that a foreign government influenced Americans and our political process.
Our government officials secretly working with villainous dictators doesn’t have any impact if no one talks about it, right?

I’m at the point where I don’t understand anything that’s going on.
Born in 1981, I remember Reagan being president. I remember what it was that made him such a powerful American figure and leader. I remember the Cold War: when the Soviet Union represented a very real and dangerous ideology and were almost an anthesis to the American (and free world) way of life. Now, I was too young to understand how close we were to an actual war (we’re probably closer now than we we were during the Reagan presidency).
I do not. Cannot. Understand how everyone isn’t losing their minds over the possibility that the Russians interfered (even in the slightest way) in our electoral processes. If anyone in President Trump’s staff colluded with them: from the bottom to the top....that’s the hugest crime in Presidential history. It undermines our government. It illegitimizes our government. It compromises everything that every American has ever worked for since 1776.
And what’s worse is that so many supporters of the current elected organization seem to be fine with it or completely in denial of it. There should be OUTRAGE! Ronald Reagan would lose his mind over this! We didn’t fight a Cold War against this foe to get undermined in such a cheap con.
Am I the only one that is scared to death about the implications of all of this? It’s bad enough that Trump is a professional fraud but he’s now the spokesperson for the free world. Is our whole country a sham? We beat the Soviet Union and promised to support freedom and democracy all over the world...and this is where we are today?
Seriously....what is going on?!?!

Alleged Russian Collusion will be Trump’s version of Obama’s birth certificate, or Bush doing 9/11, or Bill Clinton’s cigar holster, or.......
Point being, shit ain’t new, just a different variety.

“Trump is a professional fraud but he’s now the spokesperson for the free world.”
The time Trump was the spokesperson of the free world, if it has even existed for a moment, is long gone. Trump, and to an extent American politics, has become an international laughing stock. He’s seen as the clown he is. There is zero respect for him, the only respect there is is based on historic relations. There is some fear too, mostly due to his nuclear capabilities combined with his personality.
Saying Obama was the spokesperson of the free world is questionable. Saying Trump is, is a very bad joke.
